Church PlantingAn Overview of Church Planting in the Midwest ConferenceThe Midwest Conference of churches continues to be blessed by God in its shared church-planting mission. Though the greater Kansas City and Denver areas provide the best demographic potential, the conference is also eager to partner with gifted planters for well-conceived projects in smaller cities within our six-state region -- Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Wyoming. Many studies have shown that new churches tend to be more effective in the mission of evangelism than are churches ten years old or more. Why? Perhaps it’s method, perhaps it’s style, or even missional passion – or perhaps it’s something less tangible like utter dependence on God, sometimes known as ‘desperation!’ However, it is also true that existing churches are stronger in other areas than are new ones. So, together in shared ministry, older and newer churches create a missional synergy that impacts God’s creation for His glory! Most exciting is that our existing churches have come to understand that church-planting is an important part of their mission to reach their communities. It’s not ‘something denominations do,’ but is rather one of the strategies we together employ for more effectively reaching our world for Jesus Christ. Potential church planting pastors are required to participate in a thorough assessment of their gifts, temperament and experience. Our conference Director of Church Planting, Pastor Rick Mylander, is always eager to speak with those who feel church planting may be part of God’s call upon their lives, as are one of our other superintendents. Additionally, our superintendents are also eager to consult with churches to prayerfully isolate the most opportune locations for new mission work. Some existing churches have the capability and call to parent a daughter church all by themselves, and others will want to partner with sister Covenant churches to accomplish the mission. Rare opportunities will also occur to pioneer church plants in places where no Covenant ministry currently exists. What’s church planting in the Midwest Conference all about? It’s about matching the right church planter with the right, well-conceived project, in relationship with the right supporting network. This is always our prayer and goal! WANTED: 1,000 Church Planting Prayer Partners (1KCP3)Have a passion for reaching the lost? The Midwest Conference is looking for one thousand (1K) people in our Covenant family willing to be church planting prayer partners (CP3). If you would be willing to receive an e-mail every quarter or so with our most updated prayer needs among our church planting missions, please send your e-mail address to the Midwest Conference office (midcovcon@qwestoffice.net) requesting to be a part of 1KCP3. Thank you!
